Dez Bryant healthy, moving forward - ESPN (blog)

FRISCO, Texas -- Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant made a brief appearance during a practice session for Saturday's 10th annual Reebok Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Bryant arrived with teammate Martellus Bennett toward the end of batting practice Friday but did not participate. Bryant said he plans to partake in the home run derby -- and win it -- and play in the charity game.

?I?m very healthy,? Bryant said. ?I would show y'all what I?ve been working on but I?m going wait until the lockout is over, and that?s when y'all can see it in full effect.?

Bryant said he would be ready to go if the lockout ends next week. He isn't concerned with the long layoff and is instead focused on picking up where he left off before injuring his right ankle Dec. 5 against the Indianapolis Colts.

?I just feel like if you want it you?re going to get it if you really want it, and I really want it. Not only me, but I know the team does too. We?re going to go out and do our best. I?m pretty sure we?re going to play like this lockout never even existed.?

Bryant said the player-organized workouts during the lockout have been beneficial.

?The way Tony [Romo] had it structured, it felt like coaches out there,? Bryant said. ?Tony had it going right, and the leaders of the team had it going right. It felt no different.?

The Lufkin, Texas native was shell-shocked just communicating with Romo last year as rookie. Preparing for his second year in the NFL, Bryant admits at times he still gets that surreal feeling when talking to the starting quarterback.

?That?s because I?m a fan. But at the same time I?m his teammate, so I?ve got to balance that out,? Bryant said. ?Things are great, and Tony is doing a great job with us. I just know it?s going to carry on through the season to make us better.?

Added pressure? Bryant watched the Dallas Mavericks win their first world championship in franchise history and called Dirk Nowtizki a ?bad dude?. Although he sends his congratulations to the Mavericks on defeating the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals, Bryant doesn?t think their title run will put pressure on the Cowboys.

?We?re just going to go out and work for it and do what we?ve got to do each and every day to get better, and I feel like we?re going prove a lot this year,? Bryant said.

Bryant?s name has appeared often in the offseason for his off-field issues. Bryant was briefly banned from a Dallas mall, and two jewelers and an apartment complex have sued him.

Bryant said that?s all behind him and he?s looking forward now.

?I apologize for all that," Bryant said. "I?m moving on from it and I?m getting ready for the season.?
