'Jeopardy!' host injured while chasing burglar (AP)

SAN FRANCISCO ? No one needed to buzz in with a question when "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek walked out on crutches at Google headquarters to host the National Geographic World Championship.

"The answer is, at 2:30 yesterday morning, chasing a burglar down the hall at my San Francisco hotel until my Achilles tendon ruptured and I fell in an ignominious heap to the carpeting," he explained Wednesday in the quiz show's signature answer-before-question format.

Lucinda Moyers, 56, was arrested on suspicion of felony burglary and possession of stolen property. She's accused of stealing cash, a bracelet and other items from the room where Trebek was staying with his wife, Jean.

On Thursday, San Francisco Superior Court Judge Jeff Ross set Moyers' bail at $625,000 and ordered her to stay at least 150 feet away from the Trebeks.

Moyers, in an orange jail jumpsuit, said "yes" when Ross asked if she wanted a public defender. Her arraignment was postponed until Monday.

In a jail interview, Moyers told KGO-TV that she didn't go into Trebek's hotel room and believes she was arrested because of her criminal record or because it was the host of a popular syndicated game show who reported the burglary.

"I haven't done nothing. I haven't gone in his room or nothing. Just like I said that night, `I wasn't in your room.' And I stick by that. I wasn't in his room," Moyers said.

The public defender's office declined to comment on the charges but "looks forward to conducting an investigation on Ms. Moyers' behalf," said spokeswoman Tamara Aparton.

Trebek, 71, said he snapped the Achilles tendon while running after the woman around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. He is scheduled to have surgery Friday and is expected to be in a cast for six weeks.

Trebek, who has hosted "Jeopardy!" since 1984, told KNTV he was sleeping at the Marriott Marquis Hotel when he realized someone was inside his room looking through his belongings.

"I woke up and saw a figure in our hotel bedroom and I thought I was dreaming," he said. "A moment later, I got up and saw that the door was being held open by a wad of tissue. I opened the door and saw a woman walking away, and I realized immediately that someone had been in the room."

Trebek said he ran down the hall and confronted her.

"She came out of the little room where the ice machine is and I said, `What were you doing in our room?'" Trebek said. "She said, `I wasn't in your room!' I said, `What are you doing up here?' She said, `I was visiting friends.' I said, `No, you weren't. Let's see what security has to say about that."

"As I reached for the phone to call security, she bolted. She ran down the hall. I chased her. And I didn't get more than 25 feet before my right Achilles tendon ruptured and I crashed to the ground."

The suspect was apprehended inside the hotel and most of the stolen items were recovered near the ice machine, but no cash was found, San Francisco police Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.

"We got most of our stuff back, except the one piece of jewelry that I ever wear," Trebek told KGO-TV. "It's a bracelet that my mother gave me many years ago, so that's gone, and cash."

It was unclear if Trebek was targeted or how the burglar got into his room, said Erica Derryck, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office.

Derryck said Moyers has two prior residential burglary convictions in San Francisco from 1990 and 1991 and served time in state prison.

Prosecutors are still determining whether to charge Moyers under California's "three-strikes" law, which could result in a more extensive punishment if she's found guilty again, Derryck said.

Rep. David Wu: Another Congressman Resigns in a Sex Scandal
Just weeks after Anthony Weiner resigned from Congress following a sex scandal, Oregon Rep. David Wu is stepping down amid allegations involving a teenager.

A distraught 18-year-old woman called Wu's Portland, Ore., office, accusing the politician of aggressive and unwanted sexual behavior. The woman is the daughter of a longtime friend of Wu, according to The Oregonian.

"This is very serious, and I have absolutely no desire to bring unwanted publicity, attention, or stress to a young woman and her family," Wu, 56, says in a statement to the newspaper.

Following a House ethics investigation after initial reports of the allegation, Wu announced that he is resigning.

Britney Spears Having 'A Blast' On Femme Fatale Tour

Britney Spears is currently in the midst of her Femme Fatale Tour. And now that the pop princess has shaken off all those pre-tour nerves, she's been giving fans a dance-heavy spectacle that some have called her "flashiest" yet.

When MTV News recently caught up with Spears, she opened up about life on the road.

"Good, really good," Spears said of how things are going on her seventh concert tour. "It's like every other day we have another show, so we are really busy. It's a lot of fun. I like being busy."

Spears ? who is nominated for Best Pop Video and Best Choreography at the 2011 Video Music Awards ? gave credit to her fans for making each show so memorable.

"The shows have been equally amazing," Spears said. "The crowds have been so good each night and that gives you the adrenaline you need to get through the show. It just pumps you up. Every night is a blast."

And before Brit hits the stage each night, she and her dancers always get together for a pre-show ritual. "We always say a prayer before the show; sometimes a really long prayer, sometimes a short prayer. We just do it; we grab each other's hands and go do it."

On Monday, the Femme Fatale Tour added another opening act: "Jersey Shore" star DJ Pauly D confirmed he'll be hitting the road to open for Spears on six of her August dates. "Yes, that's interesting!" Spears gushed about Pauly D joining opening acts Jessie and the Toy Boys, Nervo and Nicki Minaj.

So will Spears tune into the upcoming season of "Jersey Shore"?

"It's a guilty pleasure," she admitted. "I've seen two or three episodes; it's cool."

Will you catch Britney on tour this summer? Tell us in the comments!

Singer Sheryl Crow donates her Mercedes to help Joplin (Reuters)

KANSAS CITY, Mo (Reuters) ? Cash is not all that is coming from generous people to Joplin, Missouri, which is struggling to recover a crippling May 22 tornado.

Singer and Missouri native Sheryl Crow announced Monday that she is giving up her vintage 1959 Mercedes convertible to help rebuild ten schools destroyed or damaged by the twister.

Crow will have the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Roadster put on the auction block in Pebble Beach, California, on August 22. She has owned the car since 2005.

The auction house, Gooding & Company, estimates the car's value at $50,000 to $80,00 but a spokesperson said it could go for much more, given the Crow connection and the good cause.

"After the tornado in Joplin I was moved to help rebuild a city so close to where I grew up in Missouri," Crow said in announcing the donation Monday. Crow is from Kennett in southeast Missouri and was a teacher before becoming an entertainer.

Proceeds from the car's sale will go to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, which has raised about $2.5 million for 21 different needs in Joplin, including schools and supplies. Crow met with foundation representatives a week ago, said Louise Knauer, foundation vice president.

"She talked about how this has been her favorite car," Knauer said.

Instead of selling it herself she decided to raise awareness of Joplin's needs by putting it up for auction, Knauer said. She hopes to get a plug in for the car in an appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." Knauer said. Leno is a car collector.

Crow's contribution is among hundreds the foundation has received from sources famous to obscure, Knauer said. Last month, it received $500,000 from the charitable foundation of actor Brad Pitt and his partner Angelina Jolie. Pitt spent much of his youth in Joplin.

Donations from Missourians Crow and Pitt are heartwarming, Knauer said.

"It's just great that they remember their roots and are paying attention," Knauer said.

Numerous professional athletes have made contributions, but so have two kids who sent $45 from a lemonade stand in New York City and a man from Texas who said he was hard up but still sent $5 to buy a box of cereal for the tornado homeless, foundation records show.

The foundation has received donations from people in nearly every state as well as several foreign countries, Knauer said.

The May 22 tornado took 159 lives and destroyed about 30 percent of Joplin, a city of about 50,000 residents. It was the deadliest tornado in the United States in more than 60 years.

Amy's Dad: 'Goodnight My Angel ... Sleep Tight'

Amy Winehouse's father gave a touching speech at her funeral ceremony moments ago ... telling stories from her childhood ... playing music ... and telling his daughter to "sleep tight."

The 45-minute ceremony was led by a Rabbi and included prayers in English and Hebrew.

During Mitch Winehouse's eulogy, he said, "Goodnight my angel ... Sleep tight. Mommy and Daddy love you ever so much."

The ceremony ended with a rendition of the Carole King song, "So Far Away" ... while Mitch encouraged mourners to sing along.

Private funeral planned for Amy Winehouse (AFP)

LONDON (AFP) ? The family and close friends of British soul singer Amy Winehouse were Tuesday set to hold a private funeral after a post-mortem failed to establish a cause of the 27-year-old's death.

A family spokesman said the ceremony for the troubled diva, who was found dead at her London home on Saturday, will be confined to family and close friends. He did not disclose the location or the time.

A post-mortem examination took place on Monday and an inquest was formally opened, allowing the body to be released to her family for her funeral. Jewish funerals traditionally take place as soon as possible following a death.

The singer's parents Mitch and Janis Winehouse formally identified her remains before going to see the shrine of flowers, messages, candles, beer cans and vodka bottles outside her home in Camden Square, north London.

Taxi driver Mitch said they were "devastated" by Winehouse's death, which is not being treated as suspicious. The cause of death remains unknown.

With her sultry vocals and trademark beehive hairstyle, Winehouse was considered one of the finest British female singers in years, but she had struggled with drink and drug addictions.

The post-mortem was conducted at the St Pancras Mortuary, with the formal inquest opened and adjourned to October 26 in a two-minute hearing at St Pancras Coroner's Court.

Inquests in England establish the identity of the deceased, and the place, time and cause of death.

Coroner's officer Sharon Duff gave Winehouse's full name, age, date and place of birth, divorcee status, address and occupation. She said her parents had identified the body and tissue samples had been taken.

"She was certified dead at her home by a paramedic and a doctor on July 23," Duff said.

"A section 20 post-mortem has been carried out and histology and toxicology taken to determine the cause of death.

"It (the post-mortem) did not establish a formal cause of death," added a police statement.

The scene was investigated by police and determined non-suspicious.

Police said the toxicology results were not expected for two to four weeks.

Mitch Winehouse, who flew back from New York after hearing of his daughter's death, could barely speak as he was consoled by fans and well-wishers.

"Thank you for coming. This means so much to my family," he said, his voice cracking with emotion.

Winehouse was particularly close to her father, a jazz aficionado, who inspired her love of music by singing to her when she was a child.

"You people in the street, I can't tell you what this means to us. It really is making this a lot easier for us," he said.

"Amy was about one thing and that was love. Her whole life was devoted to her family and her friends.

"We're devastated and I'm speechless."

The singer's mother was in tears when she looked at the tributes and took pictures of them on her mobile phone.

Winehouse won acclaim with her 2003 debut album "Frank" but her second and last album, "Back to Black", released in 2006, contained her biggest-selling single "Rehab" and propelled her to international success, landing her five Grammy awards.

She married Blake Fielder-Civil in Miami in May 2007 but they had a tempestuous relationship. He spent part of their marriage behind bars for attacking a pub landlord and a subsequent attempt to cover it up.

They divorced in July 2009.

Winehouse often laid bare her demons in her lyrics, but they increasingly took over, and she had to scrap a European comeback tour after stumbling through the opening performance in Belgrade on June 18.

Media reports Monday said that with her health frail, her doctor had paid a routine check-up visit on Friday evening and left with no concerns.

Winehouse had spoken to her security guard at around 10:00 am Saturday, when she was in her bedroom saying she wanted to sleep, her spokesman Chris Goodman told The Sun newspaper. He found her dead six hours later.

The singer is expected to top the British charts when they come out on Sunday following a huge surge in demand.

Britney Spears 'Completely Flattered' By Two VMA Nominations

Britney Spears is no stranger to the Video Music Awards. She has so far been nominated 28 times, won four awards and has given us some of the most iconic VMA performances of all time. Who could forget her VMA strip-down in 2000 for "Oops! ... I Did It Again," her dance with a snake for "I'm a Slave 4 U" and, of course, her infamous "Like a Virgin" kiss with Madonna?

This year, Spears looks to add to her list of VMA accomplishments with two nominations, one for Best Pop Video and one for Best Choreography for her hit Ke$ha-penned song "Till the World Ends." MTV News recently caught up with Spears and broke the news of the nominations to the pop star.

"Oh my goodness, I'm completely flattered," Spears said. "That is amazing! Thank you so much for telling me. That's awesome!"

Spears will tackle some pretty stiff competition in both categories including seven-time nominee Adele ("Rolling in the Deep") and four-time nominee Bruno Mars ("Grenade"). But Spears isn't concentrating on her competition, she's just happy to be recognized.

"I grew up listening to MTV. It's just such an iconic thing to be able to participate in," Spears said about the VMAs. "To even be presented an award is just so flattering and I'm honored. I'm excited."

Spears should be excited after such a big year. She released her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale, which reached #1 on the Billboard chart, she's currently on the road for her summer tour, and now she has two more nominations to add to her already lengthy list of awards. So does Spears ever get used to all the VMA nominations?

"Oh no, you never get used to that!" she said.

You can vote for general VMA categories, including Best New Artist, by visiting VMA.MTV.com or m.mtv.com on your mobile phone. In addition, you can get in on Best New Artist text voting by texting BNA to 66333 on your wireless phone. Voting continues through the show, which airs live August 28 at 9 p.m. ET. (Verizon subscribers can vote on all categories via SMS by texting VMA to 66333; standard message rates apply.) The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for your favorites in the general categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Quarterbacks need to take charge on the field ? but was Jay Cutler too controlling in his relationship with Kristin Cavallari?

A friend of Cavallari, who knew the couple socially, says the Chicago Bears quarterback made things difficult for his former fiance prior to calling off their engagement.

"Jay Cutler was beyond controlling and didn't really like Kristin to go out," the friend says. "When she did go out, he called all the time and demanded to know exactly where she was going and who she was with."

The friend adds: "He made her choose between him and being friends with a lot of her girlfriends. I'm not surprised it didn't last."

Cavallari, 24, and Cutler, 28, were first linked last summer. The former Hills star had been planning a wedding for next spring, and is said to be "absolutely devastated" by the end of her relationship.

Norwegian 'MI5' Had Massacre Suspect On List

The Norwegian man accused of killing at least 93 people in a shooting and car bomb will appear in court today - and is expected to give his reasons for the twin attacks.

Anders Behring Breivik, 32, has admitted to police that he carried out the shooting on the island of Utoya and the car bomb in central Oslo, but denies any criminal responsibility.

Calling himself a crusader against a tide of Islam, Breivik produced a 1,500 "terrorist manifesto" and appears to want a public platform to explain his actions.

His lawyer Geir Lippestad said: "He has been politically active and found out himself that he did not succeed with usual political tools and so resorted to violence."

"I await a medical assessment of him," he said.

"He explains himself fairly calmly, but every now and then expresses emotion," Mr Lippestad said.

"He buries his head in his hands."

"He has said that he believed the actions were atrocious, but that in his head they were necessary," he said, adding his client did not feel he deserved punishment.

One report in Norway has suggested police could apply for the court hearing to be held behind closed doors.

However, Liv Corneliussen, a police prosecutor, said: "It's up to the judge to decide.

"It's not uncommon that the police will ask for it in advance but I don't know if the police will ask for that."

Sky's Alistair Bunkall, in Oslo, said: "Immigration has happened quickly in Norway and it's changed the demographic.

"The far right argue that they have no mainstream political representation.

"We spoke to one activist who met Breivik and describes him as a megalomaniac.

"'His sinister motives he kept to himself,' he told me.

"I also asked him if Breivik had any allies in Norway.

"'No, I've never heard anyone voice an opinion to that effect,' was the answer."

The death toll from both attacks hit 93 as one of the people injured in the shooting on Utoya island died in hospital.

The chief surgeon at a hospital treating victims of the camp attack has said the killer used special "dum-dum" bullets, which are designed to disintegrate inside the body and cause maximum damage.

Police said they had no other suspects following Friday's tragedy, which started when Breivik allegedly set off a car bomb at government headquarters in Oslo, killing at least seven people and injuring 30 more.

Then, 90 minutes later, he opened fire on hundreds of teenagers assembled for the Labour Party's annual youth camp on the island of Utoya . That attack has left at least 86 people dead and more than 60 wounded.

Police say four or five people are still missing after the youth camp massacre and they fear the final death toll could reach 98.

Meanwhile, British police experts have been drafted in to help probe any links Breivik may have with European far-right organisations.

Knox Appeal: DNA Comes Under The Spotlight

Convicted killer Amanda Knox's appeal resumes today with her confidence rising that their may be "light at the end of the tunnel" following an explosive new DNA report.

Knox , 24, is serving 26 years for the brutal sex murder of British student Meredith Kercher, 21, who was found semi naked and with her throat slashed in her bedroom of the house they shared.

However, in recent months there has been growing disquiet regarding the verdict amid suggestions of a bungled forensic investigation with police and prosecutors pushing at all costs for a conviction.

Knox's best friend Madison Paxton said: "I saw her in prison a few days ago and she was confident. There is light at the end of the tunnel especially since the new DNA report.

"It feels different this time, with people willing to listen and she is really hopeful."

Key to her conviction in December 2009 was DNA evidence presented in her trial which said that genetic material from her had been found on the handle of a 30cm kitchen knife thought to be the murder weapon.

It was discovered in the kitchen of her co-accused and former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 26, who was given 25 years for the murder. DNA from Meredith was said to have been on the blade.

In Sollecito's case, his DNA was said to have been found on Meredith's bloodied bra clasp but this was not recovered from the scene until six weeks after she died and video footage showed it had also been moved.

As a result, defence lawyers for both in the original trial argued that the evidence was contaminated and flawed and should not have been used. An initial request for a review was rejected.

Earlier this year appeal judge Claudio Pratillo Hellman agreed to a fresh request and two independent experts, Carla Vecchiotti and Stefano Conti from Rome's La Sapienza university, were appointed to examine the evidence.

Last month their explosive report was leaked and they ruled that it was ''not certain that DNA from Meredith was on the knife'' and that ''contamination on the bra clasp could not be excluded".

They added: "It cannot be excluded that the results obtained may have been derived from ambient contamination or during the handling of the evidence.

"With regard to the bra clasp we believe that the results are not reliable because scientific elements do not exist which can rule out the possibility of contamination from elsewhere."

The experts also stressed that "international standards of searching for and gathering evidence were not followed with regard to the knife and the bra clasp".

With regard to the knife the experts said that the DNA provided a "low copy number" and that "due care and caution should then have been used in attributing the result to Meredith Kercher, although we agree with the findings that the genetic evidence on the handle is Knox's".

Miss Paxton, who has moved from Knox's hometown of Seattle to be near her, added: "We are hopeful but at the same time we are scared because we know the prosecution will throw something in, another wild accusation.

"We are anticipating something from them, they seem to be going out of their way to keep two innocent people in jail but we are hoping the judge and jury see the report for what it is.

"Amanda has started thinking about finally going home - we have even been talking about apartments we are going to get together but there will be no celebrations until she is free.

"We just want the court to see that a mistake was made and even though she and Raffaele were convicted they are both innocent. It would be great if we even got an apology but I doubt we will."

University of Leeds student Meredith from Coulsdon, Surrey, was discovered with her throat cut in November 2007, in the hilltop town of Perugia, just two months after she arrived in Italy during her year abroad.

A third defendant, drug dealer Rudy Guede, an immigrant from the Ivory Coast, was also jailed in connection with the brutal killing.

He was handed a 30-year sentence for murder and sexual violence following a fast-track trial in October 2008 which was later cut to 16 years.

Stewart debuts armoured Snow White shot at Comic-Con

Producers debuted the first photos of Stewart, as an armoured, sword-wielding Snow White, and Theron, as the Evil Queen, at Comic-Con in San Diego, California during a panel discussion with co-stars Chris Hemsworth (The Huntsman) and Sam Claflin (Prince Charming).

The two leading ladies played up their onscreen rivalry when they appeared before fans, with Oscar winner Theron throwing a few jabs at the Twilight star.

The South African actress admitted she had yet to spend much time with Stewart, but had a feeling she was going to "give me a run for my money".

She added, "And I'm ready for it b**ch, let's go!"

Theron went on to outline her plans for the Evil Queen's character and warned Stewart to "watch out".

She said, "It's important to me to really understand... where she came from and what drives her to get to where she is. It won't be the Evil Queen who (just) shows up evil. There's going to be a lot of circumstances that bleed into her action. I don't want to just be evil.

"And trust me, she's dark. She's a serial killer. I'm pretty much preparing to play a serial killer. I'm trying to ground it and make it something real. Watch out, Kristen."

Producer Joe Roth also touched on the rival Snow White picture currently in the works, starring Lilly Collins in the lead role, and insisted his project would challenge the traditional fairytale as a "tough, rough, active male-female picture".

He said, "Our movie is on the scale of The Lord of the Rings, in terms of size, scope and appetite. From the pictures, the other (adaptation) looks like a softer version."

Snow White and the Huntsman is due to begin production next month (Aug11) and is scheduled for release in June, 2012.

Glam Slam: Summer-Proof Your Hair

FIRST PUBLISHED: July 6, 2011 12:08 PM EDT

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Talk about a star-packed resume! I was checking out the list of celebrities hair stylist Oribe has worked with and it?s so many that it fills an entire page!

There are more than 100 stars on that list? everyone from Beyonce to Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson. He did January Jones? hair for her May W Magazine cover and Penelope Cruz for her June Vogue cover. Phew! He?s one busy guy!

Every one of these ladies has to-die-for hair, so who better to give advice for keeping our hair healthy-looking during the brutal summer months?

Here are Oribe?s tips and product recommendations:

?When you?re going into a swimming pool or heading to the beach, especially if your hair is colored, it?s all about coating your hair. A leave-in moisturizer, like my Supershine Moisturizing Cream, is a great product to run through your hair before getting in the water. Use enough to coat the entire hair shaft ? that could be a quarter-size amount or a bit more for most people. Remember that when you go into the water, some of the product will rinse out, but the key is to get a base level of protection to shield your hair from damaging UV rays, salt water and chlorine.?

?Chlorine, of course, can have a very negative effect on hair, especially for blondes. If you go swimming a lot, try coating your hair with a thicker product, like my Original Pomade, which will stay in longer as you swim.?

?Don?t worry about your hair too much, though - enjoy the summer! The beach can do beautiful things to your hair, and the sun can play with your color in very interesting ways. After you go swimming in the ocean, it?s nice to rinse your hair out to prevent your scalp from getting itchy, but if you like to keep that wonderful beachy texture, then you can encourage it with products. I have a great wave- and shine-enhancing product coming out soon that?ll be perfect for the textured look, but will add healthy moisture and shine.?

'Same Name' easily could be 'Life Swap' - Pittsburgh Post Gazette

Celebrity David Hasselhoff, right, trades places with David Hasselhoff Jr. of Lake Jackson, Texas, on the season premiere of "Same Name."

It should come as no surprise that CBS has put "Same Name" (9 p.m. Sunday, KDKA-TV) in the "Undercover Boss" time slot. They're pretty similar shows.

Instead of a boss posing as an employee, a celebrity trades places with one of us regular people who happen to share the same name as the celebrity. In the premiere, "Baywatch" star David Hasselhoff met David Hasselhoff Jr., a power technician from Lake Jackson, Texas.

What followed was pretty much what you would have expected. "Baywatch" Hasselhoff eats hamburger (ha-ha) with the Texas family while Texas Hasselhoff flies off in a private jet to live in the star's mansion for four days.

Hollywood Hoff is exhausted by regular Hasselhoff's chores and job. Texas Hasselhoff is stunned by taking the dog for a massage, getting yelled at by a personal trainer and meeting Hoff's agent.

The show hits on all the expected tropes, most notably the life of the wealthy vs. the life of a regular person. The regular folks are down to earth like the rest of us viewers; the wealthy people live a completely different life, but Hick Hoff learns that Hoff's life is complicated and busy even though he's got a ton of money. Hollywood Hoff is shocked by how neighborly folks are in Texas; he doesn't even know his Los Angeles neighbors.

"I realize I need family to keep me grounded," Hollywood Hoff confesses.

Hick Hoff learns celebrities face pressure, too. Mawkish, constructed life lessons all around!

The show is overly produced as too many shows of this type are, like the scene when Hollywood Hoff is awoken in the middle of the night to give a bottle to Texas Hoff's baby. And in the end, there's a gift given to the Texas family after Hollywood Hoff marvels, "They are working hard for a living just to make ends meet!"

"Same Name" is a show made for people who live and breathe E! and TMZ.com. Cynics need not tune in.

Future celebrities featured will include Mike Tyson, Kathy Griffin and Reggie Bush.
