Sir Elton provides therapy for young stars

The Your Song hitmaker announced last month (Jun11) he is launching Rocket Music Entertainment Group to look after the careers of several rising new musicians.

The pop star, who battled addictions to alcohol and drugs at the height of his fame, is determined to keep his young charges in fine health and is even paying a counsellor to work for Rocket Music and provide therapy for any stressed-out artists.

Sir Elton tells Music Week, "I know all the pitfalls. I've seen them all. I've made all the mistakes myself... I love to see what is going on so I can bring my experience and knowledge and help to these artists. I phone them on a regular basis and make sure they're okay and see how they're doing.

"We have someone in the office who works in a kind of counsellor capacity in case some of them have any problems with depression or confidence and stuff like that. Someone who I sat next to at an AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meeting when I first got sober and has been my friend ever since works within the office to help those artists and when they suffer a lack of confidence they can go and confide and he can lift them up."
