A six-year-old boy has been knocked down and killed by a hit and run driver in Wakefield, police have said.
It happened at Fishpond Lane at around 12.20 on Saturday afternoon.
West Yorkshire Police said the youngster, who was on foot, was hit by a grey or light-coloured hatchback car which failed to stop.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Bottomley said the boy's family were devastated by the "tragic" incident.
"At this stage we believe the driver is a young white male and the vehicle is likely to have front-end damage as a result of the collision.
"I would urge anyone with information to come forward and contact police."
