UPDATE: Wiener has informed Democratic party leaders that he is resigning, WSJ reports.
It seems only fitting that famed attorney Gloria Allred has a cameo role in the Anthony Weiner scandal.
Allred, who bills herself on her bio page as the most famous woman practicing law in America, has represented Amber Frey, the massage therapist and one-time lover of Scott Peterson, who later testified against the convicted murderer; one of Tiger Woods? mistresses ; Jodie Fisher, who filed the sexual harassment claim that led to the ouster of former HP CEO Mark Hurd, and on and on.
Now, Allred is representing Ginger Lee, the former porn star who exchanged emails with Weiner.
Allred appeared Wednesday at a press conference with Lee, who claimed that Weiner pressured her to lie about their racy conversations. Here?s an LA Times article and one from AP.
Lee said she had about a three-month Internet exchange with Weiner but did not reciprocate his sexually-charged conversational gambits.
?I did not sext Anthony Weiner,? Lee said, adding that Weiner tried to get her to issue a statement denying that they had engaged in online banter.
Representatives for Allred and Weiner did not reply to Law Blog requests for comment.
Allred said Lee called the news conference because she needed to clear up misconceptions about her behavior ?and resume her career as a feature dancer,? according to the LA Times.
?What?s a feature dancer?? one reporter asked.
?A feature dancer is a dancer who is featured,? Allred said, adding, ?She dances in clubs.?
But this was arguably not even the best part of the press conference. Here?s a snippet from the New York Times:
?The only e-mails I will talk about today are the ones that support what [Weiner] said about his package,? Ms. Allred said, before reading snippets from several messages that she said Mr. Weiner had sent Ms. Lee. ?I have wardrobe demands too, I need to highlight my package,? Ms. Allred said before turning to a different e-mail. ?Alright. My package and I are not gonna beg.?
Weiner has admitted to salacious Tweets and other online communications with women. He is taking a mental-health break from his Congressional duties.
Weiner, AP reports, has told friends he wants to speak with his pregnant wife, Huma Abedin, before deciding whether to resign. She returned to Washington early Wednesday from a trip to Africa with her boss, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
