Better in the long run

Desiree Davila of the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project in Rochester Hills won't run another marathon until the U.S. Olympic trials on Jan. 14, 2012, in Houston. Here's a look at her progress since her first 26.2-mile race in 2007:

2007: Boston Marathon: 2:44:56 (18th).

2008: U.S. Olympic trials: 2:37:50 (13th).

2008: Chicago Marathon: 2:31:33 (fifth).

2009: IAAF World Championships: 2:27:53 (11th).

2010: Chicago Marathon: 2:26:20 (fourth).

2011: Boston Marathon: 2:22:38 (second).
