Images of Osama bin Laden's body will not be released because of fears it would encourage more terror attacks, President Barack Obama has said.
Handing out "graphic" images of the corpse of the terrorist mastermind could have dispelled doubts that he is dead, but Mr Obama said that he would not release the photographs because it would create a "national security risk".
He said if the pictures were made public they could incite "additional violence" and he did not want to use them as a "propaganda tool".
He added: "There is no doubt that we killed Osama bin Laden. You will not see bin Laden walking on this Earth again."
White House spokesman Jay Carney spoke about the treatment of bin Laden's corpse, which was buried at sea and treated in accordance with Islamic practice.
"The respect that was shown to him and his body was far greater than that Osama bin Laden showed to the victims of 9/11," Mr Carney said.
