Celebrity croc 'Lolong' finally eats - GMANews.TV

After weeks of not eating, "Lolong," the 21-foot-long saltwater crocodile captured in Agusan del Sur last month, may have finally regained its appetite, a radio report said Tuesday.

"Lolong," captured last Sept. 3 in Bunawan town, consumed seven kilos of pork at 10 p.m. Monday, according to a report on Radyo Mo Nationwide (RMN).

The crocodile had been transferred to a nearby nature park shortly after its capture in Agusan Marsh. It took 30 men to subdue the creature following a three-week hunt.

Guinness record?

Guinness World Records earlier said it is "awaiting evidence" to show "Lolong" indeed deserves a world record for being the largest of its kind in captivity.

"If the measurements are validated the reported 600-kg croc would be the largest of its kind in captivity," it said on its website.

Guinness said the current record for the largest crocodile in captivity belongs to "Cassius" in 2008, an Australian saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), measuring 5.48 meters (17 feet, 11.75 inches).

It said the largest crocodile of all time is Sarcosuchus imperator, a prehistoric species which lived around 110 million years ago.

"Recent fossilized remains found in the Sahara Desert suggest that this creature took around 50-60 years to grow to its full length of around 11-12 meters (37-40 ft) with its maximum weight of around 8 tons," Guinness said.

No to croc?s transfer

Meanwhile, the mayor of Bunawan town opposes the reported plan of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to transfer "Lolong" to a seven-hectare lagoon at the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (PAWB) compound in Quezon City.

"All local government officials of Bunawan especially the villagers and officials of Barangay Nueva Era must also be consulted and series of meetings with them must he held if they insist of transferring 'Lolong' and I am sure they will not agree," said Mayor Edwin Elorde on Monday.

"I think the idea of transferring 'Lolong' is unacceptable to local officials and residents? I will not agree to the DENR and PAWB idea to transfer Lolong," he added.

Elorde also said that he had communicated with PAWB Director Mundita Lim, and that Lim had told him that there is no such plan to transfer "Lolong" to Quezon City.

"Director Lim explained to me everything and claimed she was only misquoted and never did she want 'Lolong' transferred to Quezon City or anywhere else," he said. ? with Ben Serrano/KBK/HS, GMA News

Amanda Knox Arrives Home, Tearfully Expresses Thanks

After spending four years in an Italian prison for a murder she says she didn't commit, an emotional and grateful Amanda Knox is back home again.

The American student arrived in Seattle on Tuesday evening and tearfully said she still hasn't adjusted to the surreal events of recent days in which an appeals court overturned her murder conviction.

"I'm really overwhelmed right now," she said in a broken voice. "I was looking down from the airplane and it seemed like everything wasn't real."

After listening to her lawyer and parents give brief remarks, Knox, 24, stood before a throng of reporters in the airport and joked that after so long away she was struggling to communicate.

"They're reminding me to speak English; I'm having trouble with that," she said.

By turns smiling and fighting tears, she then paid tribute to her supporters, some of whom were cheering at the press conference.

"What's important for me to say is just thank you to everyone who has believed in me, who has defended me, who has supported my family," she said. "My family's the most important thing for me right now and I just want to go be with them. Thank you for being there for me."

Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 27, were convicted in the 2007 murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher, 21, in what Italian authorities called a sadistic sex game gone awry.

But the convictions were overturned Monday by a panel of two judges and six jurors after problems arose with the DNA evidence.

Sherri Shepherd Blasts Barbara Walters over N-Word Use on The View�

Tempers flared on Monday's episode of The View as Sherri Shepherd chastised Barbara Walters for using the N-word in a newsy context.

Whoopi Goldberg used the word first on Monday's broadcast while quoting presidential candidate Herman Cain. Walters repeated it in context of their conversation, though she told her co-hosts, "It's very hard for me to say. ? The fact that I just said it now gives me chills."

The co-hosts were discussing the name of a hunting camp used by Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry. But when Walters said the word, she drew a sharp rebuke from Shepherd.

"I didn't like the way you said it," Shepherd told her co-host. "I don't know if it's a semantics thing, but it's something that goes through my body."

Shepherd has said publicly that she's been the victim of racially-motivated bullying.�

"When I heard you say it, it was fine," Shepherd told Goldberg. "You said it a different way."

ABC repeatedly bleeped the word during the women's discussion.

Walters asked Shepherd point-blank if her objection was because Walters was white.

"Yeah, it's something about hearing you say it," Shepherd said. "I don't like it when you use the word. ? When you say it, it's a different connotation."

Hurley confirms engagement

Reports surfaced on Saturday (01Oct11) suggesting the sports star had proposed over a romantic dinner in Scotland, where the couple has been attending a golf tournament.

Hurley, who divorced husband Arun Nayar in June (11), has now made the happy news official and posted a picture on her Twitter.com page of the couple on the night Warne proposed.

She writes in an accompanying post, "Thanks for all your congratulations. Here's a pic of us about to go to Dunhill dinner in St Andrews."

Cheryl Cole turns back on TV

CHERYL Cole's decided to ditch TV for at least a year to focus on her singing career.

In the same week she's reported to have been busy in the studio with record producer Alex Da Kid, Cheryl's spokesman has denied US reports that she was planning a deal to join Britain's Got Talent for the next three years.

While Chezza will attend ITV's Pride Of Britain Awards on Wednesday, there is apparently no suggestion she will return to any of Simon Cowell's shows, either here or in America.

American TV insiders claimed the singer's management had asked for �1 million per series for her to appear on BGT, after she rejected a return to the British X Factor.

It's also been reported they requested a ?full-time chauffeur, round-the-clock security and roles for her brother Gary and assistant Lily?, according to one source.

Although her spokesman insisted these talks didn't happen, explaining "Cheryl Cole is focusing on her singing career".

Which sounds good to us!

Elizabeth Hurley: Engaged to Shane Warne?

When Aussie cricket star Shane Warne gushed to a radio station about being in love with girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley last month, he did not share any plans for marriage.

"If I've got some sort of news I'll be more than happy to share it with you," he said.

Or Tweet it? On Saturday, both Warne, 41, and Hurley, 46, sent identical Tweets that read: "Thanks for all your congratulations. Here's a pic of us about to go to Dunhill dinner in St Andrews."

The Daily Mail first reported the news and ran a photo online of her wearing a sizeable sapphire on her ring finger.

A rep for the actress could not be reached for comment. Hurley's divorce from businessman Arun Nayar was finalized in June.

Happy Endings: 2011-12 TV Season Ratings

Happy Endings ratings Former couple Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) and Dave (Zachary Knighton) are still getting along so their friends (Eliza Coupe, Adam Pally, Casey Wilson, and Damon Wayans, Jr.) don?t have to choose sides and break up their tight group of Chicago friends. The second season of Happy Endings typically airs Wednesday nights at 9:30pm on the ABC network.

Here are the TV show?s ratings for the 2011-12 season, the best way to tell if Happy Endings is going to be cancelled or renewed for season three. These figures will be updated as the weeks progress so be sure to bookmark and return to this page:

Wednesday, 10/5/11: TBA

Wednesday, 9/28/11: The sitcom kicked off the season with a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.25 million viewers. Those aren?t great numbers, especially considering the strength of its Modern Family lead-in, but they do represent a series high for the sophomore show. It?s also outperforming The Middle and several of the network?s new shows.

Reference point: The 2010-11 season averaged a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.0 million viewers.

Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
