Mubarak Denies All Charges As Trial Begins

The trial of Egypt's former President Hosni Mubarak is set to start in the capital Cairo, six months after the mass protests that forced him from power.

The 83-year-old, who was the country's strongman ruler for 30 years before January's revolution, faces charges of corruption and of killing 800 pro-democracy campaigners during the uprising.

"They should hang him," said Jalal Faisal Ali, whose 18-year-old brother Nasser was among those who died.

"He was responsible for all of the deaths, because it was to save him and his sons," he added.

Mr Mubarak will appear alongside his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, and other regime officials at a special courtroom set up at a police academy that used to bear his name on the outskirts of Cairo.

The man who for decades locked up and tortured his opponents will - like any other accused Egyptian criminal - be held in an iron cage in the court throughout the trial that will be televised on state TV.

For those who demanded his downfall, his humbling and humiliation will make compulsive viewing.

"When I see this it will be like a dream," said Mahmoud Sameh, who joined the Tahrir Square protests.

"It feels like a big step towards us taking our rights," he added.

Mr Mubarak - formerly America's closest ally in the Arab world - has not been seen publicly since he stepped down.

He has been under "detention" at a hospital in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh where his doctors have frequently issued dire warnings about his condition.

Last week, he was declared by his lawyer to be in a coma , then he was awake and refusing to eat.

Pro-democracy activists, who see the trial as a key test of the progress towards a "new Egypt", fear his health would be used as an excuse to evade justice.

They also fear the military generals who are running the country ahead of free elections would help save their former master to prevent him revealing their own role in his repressive rule.

Just hours before the trial was due to start, the anticipation about his appearance was tempered by scepticism.

"I don't believe he's going to show up," one man said in a Cairo cafe.

"We want to see justice but he will find a way to get out of it," he added.

Looks like "Bachelorette" Ashley Hebert and fiance J.P. Rosenbaum are still in the honeymoon phase!

The cute couple, who got engaged on the season finale of "The Bachelorette" season 7 when Ashley picked construction manager J.P. over winemaker Ben Flajnik, took a walk in New York hand in hand Tuesday, causing a paparazzi frenzy.

The two happily smiled, kissed for the cameras and seemed genuinely in love. Could this be a "Bachelorette" couple that actually lasts � la Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter?! Guess only time will tell!

Bin Laden Raid 'Was Always Shoot To Kill'

The crack team of Navy Seals who launched the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan were always planning to kill him, it has emerged.

There was "never any question" the al Qaeda chief would be captured alive, according to a special operations officer who spoke to The New Yorker magazine.

This conflicts with claims by the Obama administration that the world's most wanted man would have been allowed to live if he had "conspicuously surrendered".

In the first detailed account of the mission, details of the exact moment the international terrorist was killed were also revealed.

"Geronimo" was the word picked to illustrate when he had been located in the compound in Abbottabad where he had been hiding out for years.

Two Black Hawk helicopters flew to Pakistan in secret carrying two dozen Navy Seals and a sniffer dog for the mission in May this year.

The Seals had already killed the terror boss's courier and unarmed wife and Bin Laden's son Khalid before they found him hiding upstairs.�

Two of Bin Laden's other wives attempting to shield him. One shouted in Arabic and apparently made as if to charge so was shot in the leg.

The Navy Seal who fired feared the women might be wearing suicide bomb vests and stepped forward to wrap them in a hug to block any blast but they were unarmed.

Bin Laden himself also did not have a weapon and the team seized their chance.

The unnamed officer told the New Yorker: "There was never any question of detaining or capturing him. It wasn't a split-second decision. No-one wanted detainees."

He was first shot in the chest and fell backwards. A second bullet entered his head above his left eye.

On his radio, the Seal declared: "For God and country - Geronimo, Geronimo, Geronimo." He then added: "Geronomio E.K.I.A (enemy killed in action)."

Back in the White House, where they had been watching the entire raid, Barack Obama said: "We got him."

Other details revealed in the article included "Crankshaft", the name given to the operation to kill Bin Laden. The specific raid was dubbed Operation Neptune's Spear.

The Seals had earlier spent five days practising in dense forest in North Carolina using a replica forest and another week in Nevada.

When they returned to Jalalabad with Bin Laden's body, it was checked by Vice Admiral Bill McRaven and the CIA station chief.

A doctor took two bone marrow samples and some DNA swabs. Photos were also taken of his face and the full corpse before it was flown to Bagram.

The US checked with Saudi intelligence to see if they wanted the body before burying it at sea to avoid any grave becoming a shrine.

Mr Obama later met all the Seals who were involved but he never asked who had fired the shot that killed Bin Laden, not was the information volunteered.

Actress Faye Dunaway named in NYC eviction lawsuit (AP)

NEW YORK ? A New York City landlord is suing Faye Dunaway, claiming the actress' rent-stabilized apartment is not her primary residence.

The suit also names the actress' son, Liam Dunaway O'Neill, as a subtenant of the Manhattan apartment.

The New York Times ( http://nyti.ms/o4raY2) says the housing court suit was filed Tuesday.

The suit says the "Bonnie & Clyde" actress owns a house in West Hollywood, Calif., and has her voter and car registrations there.

Rent stabilization rules require tenants to use those apartments as a primary residence, not a second home.

The suit says she pays $1,048 for the one-bedroom walk-up. The Times says similar apartments in that neighborhood rent for about twice that.

The 70-year-old actress and her son didn't return calls seeking comment, and the landlord's lawyer declined to comment.

Rush reigns at Aussie theatre awards

Rush received the Best Actor in a Play award for his turn in an Aussie reprisal of The Diary of a Madman at the annual performing arts prizegiving, held at the Sydney Opera House.

Accepting the honour, Rush told the audience, "We first did this (production) in '89 and it's been a hell of a journey."

The play also won Best Original Score and Best Director for Neil Armfield.

Cate Blanchett was also a big winner - she was named Best Actress in a Play for her role in her Sydney Theatre Company's production of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya.

Family-friendly stage show Mary Poppins won eight Helpmann Awards out of its 12 nominations, including Best Musical, and Best Male and Female Actors in a Musical for its leads Matt Lee and Verity Hunt-Ballard.
