Jay-Z, Kanye West Host A Throne Party Under The Stars

NEW YORK ? On Monday night, a long line formed outside the West 81st Street entrance of the American Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium. And there was definitely some stargazing going on as fans, music-industry mainstays and famous friends gathered for a special listening of Jay-Z and Kanye West's upcoming Watch the Throne LP.

There were plenty of photo ops as Beyonc, Kelly Rowland, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Pusha T, actor Idris Elba and, of course, Hov and Yeezy, were in attendance, but there would be no picture-taking, tweeting or sound-recording as all entrants had to turn over their phones, iPods and other electronic devices at the door. After drinks and hors d'oeuvres, three separate groups were herded into the planetarium, which was much too small to accommodate all of the invited guests simultaneously. Once inside, the music played to a light show consisting of orbiting planets, shooting stars and dizzying black holes.

The listening session opened in grand fashion with the regal-sounding "No Church in the Wild." On it, Jay raps about tears that drop on a mausoleum floor and blood-stained coliseum doors, over a beat fit for two hip-hop kings. And the starlit setting couldn't have been more fitting for the Beyonc -assisted "Lift Off." As the bouncy beat ushered its way in, celestial images danced across the planetarium's overhead screen. On the song, B belts out the song's hook, singing, "We gonna take you to the moon, take it to the stars, how many people you know can take it this far?" (Judging from the roll-out for Watch the Throne, the answer to B's rhetorical question is: no one.)

The RZA-produced "New Day" seemed to be a favorite among the energetic crowd, who danced to it in the aisles of the space theater. The song finds 'Ye talking to his unborn child, pledging to never let his son have an ego or to denounce an American president during a live telethon or relocate his mother to Hollywood ? all personal details from Yeezy's life. It's not that 'Ye can't live with the regret, but rather that he's learned from his own mistakes and wants to keep his future children from repeating them.

"That's My Bitch" and "Who Gon Stop Me" are both kinetic affairs that will surely rock the clubs, though the latter, with its electronic feel, doesn't really sound like anything in hip-hop today.

"Made in America" features Odd Future singer Frank Ocean and finds the Throne contemplating their come-up. Kanye famously started out as a hit producer who had to prove himself worthy of rocking the mic. So, in the song's lyrics, 'Ye evokes a drug lord breaking the number one rule, as he rhymes, "I'm rappin' off of beats they supposed to buy/ I guess I'm gettin' high off my own supply."

The album closes with what could be another fan-favorite, judging by the reaction from the crowd: "Why I Love You." On the final track, the accomplished duo are feeling a bit underappreciated. "Wasn't I a good king?" Hov asks before rattling off the highlights of his rap reign, as if it were drawing to a close. Of course, when it comes to Jay-Z and retirement, fans should know better. Perhaps, Jay and Kanye would have been better off leaving the song open-ended because, based on the presentation of Monday night's event, it doesn't seem that either MC will relinquish the throne anytime soon.

Watch the Throne Week begins! Check in with MTV News every day until Wednesday, August 10, for exclusive content surrounding the release of Jay-Z and Kanye West's eagerly anticipated LP.

The former Baywatch actress ? who nearly appeared in the Channel 4 programme last year before pulling out at the last minute when ex-husband Tommy Lee refused to go in as well ? revealed she will not put on an act in the UK house when the show returns on Channel 5 later this month.

She said: 'I am very excited about the show. I will just be myself and have fun with the contestants in the house.'

The 44-year-old stunner ? who starred in the Indian version of the programme last year for three days and appeared in the Australian Big Brother in 2008 ? could feature alongside The Only Way is Essex star Amy Childs, Two and a Half Men actor Charlie Sheen and former X Factor singing sensation Jedward after they have all been rumoured to be appearing in the reality TV programme.

An insider told the Daily Star newspaper: 'The time is right for Pamela and she's going to be a TV treat for BB fans.'

And Doherty is also on the cards to join the show after The Sun reported he has signed a mega-bucks deal to enter the house.

Paddy starred in the popular Channel 4 show earlier this year and bosses are hoping he'll prove just as big a hit in the revamped show.

An insider told the newspaper: 'Paddy will have to get used to a house on Big Brother.

'But he is up for the challenge of doing the reality show and can't wait to get involved.'

He's been clean one year and says he's a changed man. Now, The Hills and Laguna Beach alum Jason Wahler ? who had a string of drunk driving arrests and stints in rehab ? is making strides with his personal life as well.

"I wanted to make amends with Lauren [Conrad]," he says of his ex-girlfriend. "She was a big part of my life and there's stuff that happened in the past with my drunken ways that I needed to address."

Wahler, 24, currently works in Costa Mesa, Calif., at National Therapeutic Services as a mentor and sober companion. "It feels good to give back," says Wahler, who contacted Conrad recently after feeling more comfortable in his recovery.

"She's an incredible person and so supportive of anything I do to stay clean," he says. "But the timing had to be right before I reached back out."

Conrad, who was "impressed" with Wahler's achievement in sobriety, was "more shocked at what I'm doing for work," says the former reality star.

"I needed to humble myself a lot," he says. "A lot of those [Laguna] people knew me before all the bad stuff, and thankfully I've been able to rekindle a lot of my old friendships."

So will Wahler return to Hollywood now that he's sober? He says he'll never go back to the day-and-night party scene of Los Angeles, but he did celebrate his sobriety last week with a bash at 31 Ten Lounge in Santa Monica, Calif.

Wahler's Celebrity Rehab costars Janice Dickinson, Jeremy London, Jason Davis and Leif Garrett showed their support and attended the party, which was sponsored by Sober is Sexy and Body Armor. His new girlfriend of a few weeks, Ashley Slack, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, was also there to support Wahler.

Says Wahler of his new life, "I think being clean and having my boundaries and my limitations, I have a much clearer head."

Jennifer Lopez Speaks About Split From Marc Anthony

Jennifer Lopez tells Vanity Fair that she still "believe[s] in love," in her first interview since announcing that she and husband Marc Anthony were ending their seven-year marriage.

"Sometimes it doesn't work, and that's sad. But I remain an eternal optimist about love," Lopez said. "It's still my biggest dream. I am positive ? determined ? to move forward with my life, bring up my babies and do the best job I can as a mother, entertainer and person. I now look forward to new challenges. I feel strong."

Lopez appears on the cover of the magazine's September issue (on newsstands nationwide August 9), and she spoke openly not only about her marriage to Anthony, but her previous high-profile relationships with P. Diddy and Ben Affleck. Calling herself "a hopeless romantic ... [a] passionate person when it comes to love," she added that, until recently, she rarely loved herself, a revelation she says lead to her decision to split with Anthony.

"It's not that I didn't love myself before. Sometimes we don't realize that we are compromising ourselves," Lopez said. "To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way, or that he is not doing the right thing for himself ? if I stay, then I am not doing the right thing for me. I love myself enough to walk away from that now."

But Lopez adds that she remains close to Anthony, whom she married in June 2004 and with whom she has two children, telling the magazine, "I will always respect Marc as a singer and a performer. ... We actually work great together, and he was always very supportive. ... He will always be in our lives. He will always hold a special place in my heart as the father of my children."

Thousands Of Charities Hit By Government Cuts

Thousands of charities and voluntary groups are facing budget cuts worth over 100m because of reductions in local government funding.

Some groups are having funding withdrawn altogether, the study of councils across England by anti-cuts website False Economy showed.

The cuts have totalled over 10m in the past year but the final figure is likely to be far higher because some authorities have not yet finalised their plans, said the report.

Many of the charities facing cuts deal with disabled people, children, the elderly and adult care, said False Economy .

The group's campaign director, Clifford Singer, said: "These cuts go deep into the voluntary and community sectors.

"These are not just nice-to-have groups but organisations [which provide] vital services for older people trying to maintain independent lives, vulnerable children and abused women."

Adventure playground KIDS , based in Hackney in east London, offers services for children with disabilities and learning difficulties.

Organisers say councils are cutting back on funding the playground for vital services.

Alex Mills, national services manager for KIDS told Sky News: "There is no Plan B. If we don't get enough funding then we can't run services like this.

"We foresee that if local authorities look at only the short term by making small cuts here and there, then they aren't really looking at the long term, and the fact that they will have to invest thousands more pounds in the future to support these families who won't have this service right at the start.''

Simon Bierman takes his two sons to the playground most weeks and he is not convinced the group can survive on volunteers alone.

"The Big Society looks good on paper but the fact is that people have problems and pressures of their own," he said.

"Some of the kids here need professional help and that costs money."

Charity groups and trade unions are now rounding on David Cameron 's Big Society idea, claiming that it is not working.

Trades Union Congress (TUC) general secretary Brendan Barber said: "These deep cuts to voluntary groups across the UK show that Government claims that charities can replace direct services currently provided by central or local government are false.

"It sounds great, but in practice the Big Society is looking more and more like a big con."

A spokesman for the Department for Communities and Local Government added: "The Government has provided a fair and progressive funding settlement for councils that protect frontline services and shield the most vulnerable.

"Councils have challenging decisions to make around how they prioritise spending but the Government is clear that councils must resist any temptation to pass on disproportionate savings to the voluntary sector."
