Shriver to terminate marriage with Schwarzenegger (AFP)

LOS ANGELES (AFP) ? Maria Shriver, the wife of actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, has filed for divorce, according to documents filed in Superior Court in Los Angeles.

Shriver, 55, cited "irreconcilable differences" with her husband, whom she met in 1977 and married in 1986.

Schwarzenegger, 63, admitted in May that he had fathered a child with the family's long-time housekeeper, Mildred Baena, and announced the couple's separation.

The niece of former US president John F. Kennedy, Shriver has asked the court for joint custody of their two younger children -- Patrick, 17, and Christopher, 13 -- and payment of her legal fees and alimony.

The couple has two other children: Katherine, 21, and Christina, 19.

"This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us," Schwarzenegger said in a May statement to the Los Angeles Times when he and Shriver announced their separation.

"After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart while we work on the future of our relationship," the statement said.

Austrian-born former bodybuilder Schwarzenegger, a liberal Republican, left office in January, and has started to return to show business, with plans for a "Governator" comic book and animated TV show.

While Arnie seems set to return to the big screen, he has vowed to pursue his political passions -- notably on the environment -- fueling rumors than he could even run to be the next president of the European Union.

Their marriage has come under the spotlight over the years, notably amid reports of his history of groping women during campaigning for the 2003 recall election which Schwarzenegger won, the LA Times reported.

Shriver, a former TV journalist, defended him at the time, and has stood by his side during his seven years at the helm of the Golden State, a term that ended when Jerry Brown succeeded him four months ago.

The political differences were evident during the 2008 presidential race, when Shriver backed Barack Obama and Schwarzenegger supported Republican John McCain.

New Celebrity Silhouette heads to sea for the first time - USA Today

This item was written by Fran Golden, a cruise expert and Trip Coach for Budget Travel magazine. Golden is serving as Guest Editor of The Cruise Log while USA TODAY Cruise Editor Gene Sloan is away.

After a tight squeeze and a backwards 26-mile navigation, Celebrity Cruises' newest ship, the 2,886-passenger Celebrity Silhouette, today completed its "conveyance" from a German shipyard as it headed for the first time to sea.

The 122,400-ton ship left the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, yesterday for the 12-hour journey down the Ems River towards Emshaven, Netherlands.

Power lines and some railway tracks over the river had to be removed to allow space for the Silhouette, and at times the large vessel had only 5 feet of wiggle room, officials said. The ship traveled the River Ems at less than four miles per hour, assisted by tugboats fore and aft.

Finishing work will be completed in Emshaven before the ship undergoes sea trials. The Silhouette is scheduled to be named in formal ceremonies in Hamburg on July 21.

The fourth ship in Celebrity's Solstice-class, the Silhouette, like its sister ships, has a lawn on top with real grass.

New features on Silhouette include the Lawn Club Grill, billed as the industry's "first outdoor, interactive grill," where passengers will be able to do their own cooking, assisted by the ship's chefs. Pre-booking for the dinner experience (also available for lunch on one sea day each cruise) opened online this week; a $30 per person fee is involved.

Following a July 23 maiden cruise from Hamburg to Rome (Civitavecchia), the Silhouette will do a series of 12-day cruises from Rome to the Holy Land before repositioning to Cape Liberty, N.J., for 12-day Caribbean sailings beginning in November.

Royal couple marks Canada Day on debut tour (AFP)

OTTAWA (AFP) ? Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, wowed screaming Canadian crowds as she and Prince William began their first official overseas trip as Britain's royal golden couple.

Canadians on Thursday turned out en masse for a glimpse or a handshake as Princess Catherine, wearing a navy lace dress by Montreal-born designer Erdem Moraliaoglu, put in a consummate debut performance in the capital Ottawa.

"Welcome to Canada, honeymoon capital of the Commonwealth," said Governor General David Johnston.

Packed with pomp and pageantry, the North American tour comes just two months after a radiant Kate Middleton walked down the aisle in a fairytale royal wedding watched by an estimated two billion people worldwide.

Popularly known still as Kate, the only hint of trouble for the former Miss Middleton came the moment she stepped off the plane and her flowing dark hair was buffeted by a strong wind as she greeted dignitaries.

The couple's arrival at the National War Memorial in downtown Ottawa triggered excited screams from an estimated 10,000-strong crowd -- several of the women wearing fascinators, the hair accessory of choice for the duchess.

"There he is. There's our future king," Pat Snair shouted from the fringes of the crowd as the 29-year-old newlyweds stepped from the cortege to place a bouquet of flowers before the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

While Prince William, second in line to the British throne, has plenty of experience at royal duties, Kate is a relative rookie. But it was clearly the elegant Berkshire, England native that many of the crowd had come to see.

She represents the future of the monarchy, she's "excitement and youth," said Denise, in her 60s.

"William is OK, but Kate is fascinating," added two teenage girls.

The princess was cool under fire and showed no outward signs of nerves on her first overseas walkabout, smiling broadly and exchanging polite banter as she shook hands with the crowd for longer than the intended hour.

"I'm hoping to find romance like theirs," said one wildly-impressed teenage girl.

From the war memorial unveiled in 1939 by William's great-grandparents King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, who established a tradition with the first royal walkabout, the show then moved on to the official residence of the governor general, the vice-regal representative of Queen Elizabeth II.

"Catherine and I are so delighted to be here in Canada," William said. "We have been looking forward to this moment for a very long time. Quite separately, before we were married, we had both had a longing to come here, instilled in us by our parents and grandparents."

He spoke in both of Canada's official languages, French and English, and to laughs vowed his French would improve over the course of this trip.

"The geography of this country is world-renowned, as is the hospitality of its peoples," William said. "We are so very excited about having this opportunity to experience both -- and learn much more about this fantastic country."

Canadian fans packed every hotel in sight of the capital. Some even camped overnight on the steps of the war memorial, awakened by Canada's national anthem blared from nearby Parliament Hill, where technicians readied sound and stage equipment for Friday's Canada Day celebrations.

Support for the monarchy hovers above 50 percent in Canada and has risen from last year when Queen Elizabeth II visited, although there is still a vocal anti-monarchist minority planning to protest in Quebec City on Sunday.

In addition to official and military ceremonies, the royal schedule has lighter moments planned, such as a cooking class, an aboriginal sports event and a rodeo.

Later Thursday, the royals attended a barbecue with 120 young Canadians at the residence of the governor general, where they are spending the night. A downpour, however, forced the event indoors.

William, in a buttoned down shirt slightly open at the collar, khakis and brown loafers, put his arm around the princess's waist to guide her around the room, chatting with guests. Kate changed into a black and white dress by Issa for dinner.

The gourmet menu included Quebec cheeses, chilled New Brunswick oysters, Qikiqtarjuaq sea urchins, Great Lakes herring roe salsa, Winnipeg smoked goldeye, Yukon Arctic char, musk ox prosciutto and potato-crusted Alberta yak tartar.

On Friday, the couple will cap off their visit to the capital by joining tens of thousands of revelers outside parliament for musical performances and fireworks to celebrate Canada's national holiday.

They then embark on a countrywide tour, taking a cooking class in Montreal on Saturday, before traveling on to Quebec City, Charlottetown, Yellowknife and Calgary.

Prior to their final stop in Canada, the newlyweds are expected to sneak away on a romantic getaway to a secluded and undisclosed location in the Rocky Mountains.

After wrapping up their Canadian tour, they will travel to California for a three-day visit on July 8-10 whose highlight will be a black-tie celebrity reception for British filmmakers in Los Angeles.

Glam Slam: The Friday Five - Head To The Beach!

FIRST PUBLISHED: June 10, 2011 1:22 PM EDT

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

I am beach bound this weekend and can?t wait!!!! Surf and sand - here I come!

Don?t leave home without a well-stocked beach bag (Lindsay Phillips makes cute canvas ones www.lindsay-phillips.com) Here are a few of my hot weather essentials?

1. SUNBLOCK
Don?t EVER leave home without it! An absolute must, especially for fair skinned gals like myself. I use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock with SPF 100+! If you have kids, take extra care to make sure they are covered head to toe.

2. CUTE SUIT
A swimsuit is something I just won?t pay top dollar for. Not gonna happen. Target, Old Navy, H&M and Forever21 all have on-trend suits at dirt cheap prices. Happy Shopping!

3. STYLISH MULTITASKER
I always take a large cotton scarf to the beach and right now I am all about Theodora & Callum scarves, which are ultra chic and very practical. Plenty of celebrities agree? Kate Hudson, Heidi Klum and Jessica Alba are fans and Julia Roberts loves them so much she gifted them to Oprah?s audience on one of her last shows. The Theodora & Callum oversize ?Tie All? scarves can be worn multiple ways? around your waist as a sarong, a cover up for your shoulders or legs if you are getting too much sun. It can also be tied as a strapless dress, empire waist dress, halter or one shoulder style to take you straight from the pool to a party. www.theodoraandcallum.com

4. HIP HEADGEAR
Protect your skin and hair against sun and wind damage with a stylish hat. I actually just bought a cute one from crewcuts, when I was shopping for my daughter. Don?t forget the shades too! Go for dark, big sunglasses to protect the delicate skin around your eyes. I am rocking the large size Ray-Ban Wayfarers in black. You can never go wrong with a classic!

5. FAB FOOTWEAR
Matthew McConaughey is the ultimate beach dude and if he likes something, you know it?s a good thing. Sanuk (which means fun in Thai) specializes in beach and surf shoes and also counts Brad Pitt, Halle Berry and Ellen DeGeneres as fans of the brand. I like their flip flop called the Yoga Mat, which is made out of recycled yoga mats. www.sanuk.com

Let's all look at pictures of Jennifer Aniston for weekend gym-spiration

ABOVE: Jennifer Aniston doesn't seem to have aged one bit during the last ten years
ABOVE: Jennifer Aniston wore a sparkling black mini dress to the premiere
ABOVE: Jennifer Aniston needs to tell us her anti-ageing secrets, right now

THIS is getting ridiculous now, Jennifer Aniston has had a good ten years of the red carpet lifestyle and she STILL hasn't aged a bit.

Has anyone else seen Death Becomes Her (Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis in a bit of a 90s cheese fest)?

If so, are you also under the impression that Jennifer Aniston may have drunk a bottle of that magic 'never grow old' potion?

Jen, who is supposed to be 42 (for goodness' sake), looked incredible as she hit the red carpet in LA yesterday for the premiere of Horrible Bosses.

Wearing a sparkling black mini dress and strappy heels, Jennifer stole the limelight from everyone and everything as she showed off her toned figure.

Meanwhile, her current boyfriend, Justin Theroux, kept a low profile as he used a side entrance to enter the cinema - no, we don't understand why either.

Is the land of Catherine Zeta Jones and Katherine Jenkins really the UK's ...

Katherine Jenkins

Beauty and relationship experts across Waleshave dismissed a global dating website whose members branded the Welsh as the ugliest people in Britain.

A mere 11% of Welsh men and 12% of women who have applied to exclusive site Beautiful People have been accepted to become members ? less than both England and Scotland.

But beauty and relationships experts in Wales have fought back, rubbishing the claim and pointing to iconic showbiz figures spawned from this country who disprove the theory.

Hollywood actors Richard Burton and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and singer Katherine Jenkins were name- dropped as great ambassadors of Welsh aesthetic appeal.

Passion, culture and language were also listed as reasons why Welsh people have an intrinsic appeal.

British TV presenter and fashion journalist Lowri Turner said: ?If they?re looking for ugly people, what about Essex, not Wales. I nominate Katherine Jenkins and her boyfriend to be as proof that Welsh people can be fantastic-looking. ?

Beautiful People has a global dating community of five million members and is described as ?an elite online club, where every member works the door?.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

People seeking membership are asked to submit a photo of themselves, upon which current members will rate their beauty. Applicants will only be accepted if a majority of members consider them beautiful over a 48-hour period.

The Scandinavian countries of Norway and Sweden, home of model Victoria Silvstedt, boast the most beautiful people, according to the site.

Paula Abbandonato has been the organiser of the Miss Wales competition for the past seven years.

Dismissing the figures, the 42-year-old from Lisvane in Cardiff said: ?Maybe the Welsh are so gorgeous that they?re all snapped up already and they don?t need these dating websites.

?We?re going to win Miss World this year, so that will put them all straight.?

Ms Abbandonato said Welsh people were good at utilising the ?80-20 rule? to make the most of their looks.

Explaining the concept, she said: ?It?s all about the 80% you do with the 20% you have got. It?s only about the 20% you?re born with and the rest is making the best with the hand that you have been dealt.

?That?s very liberating for a lot of people who don?t think highly of themselves. It means that everybody has got the potential to look good.?

Ms Abbandonato singled out Catherine Zeta-Jones as an iconic Welsh beauty.

Victoria Silvstedt

?She?s wonderfully gorgeous. I think you can see she plays the 80-20 rule really well. ?She?s just a traditional, timeless beauty.?

University of Glamorgan senior lecturer Henry Enos has previously studied the use of websites in dating. Offering hope to Welsh singletons, Dr Enos said: ?In other data the Welsh have been shown as the most passionate, and Welsh men are considered quite virile.

?But, come on, we have got Hollywood greats such as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Richard Burton.?

Naomi Roberts has been the South Wales branch coordinator of a UK-wide ?romance academy? for teenagers since 2006. The project discusses relationship issues with teenagers from the age of 14 to 18.

Ms Roberts said: ?I have travelled around the place quite a bit and Welsh people are definitely renowned for their friendly hospitality and kindness. They are also great fun and fun-loving ? and bursting with an amazing culture which is to die for.?

Richard Burton

Spokeswoman for Beautiful People Felicity Hardingham said Welsh people may be disadvantaged on the site by submitting photos of themselves with groups of friends.

She said: ?This means they are likely to be judged based on the attractiveness of their friends rather than just themselves. They also appear smaller in the image so members cannot get a good idea of what they really look like.

?On the other hand, Scottish men often strike a pose which may seem moody or aggressive. We think this is why Englishmen have a higher chance of being accepted.

?Overall, we noticed that countries with an outdoor, sunny lifestyle do really well. This may be because they are more likely to be tanned and physically fit.?

William and Kate mingle at the informal reception in Ottawa

John Stillwell/Pool/Reuters/Landov

After a day of enthusiastic welcomes and thunderous cheers, Prince William smiled as all went quiet when he entered an informal barbecue Thursday night in Ottawa.

As he and wife Kate entered Rideau Hall, the chattering of 120 young people stopped. "Talk among yourselves," he commented.

The royal couple were ending the first day of their north American tour at a barbecue for young people ? that was hastily moved inside Rideau Hall's Tent Room (with its red and white-striped canopy-styled ceiling) because of sudden rain showers.

The prince spoke his aside as he and Kate began meeting five specially-selected young people at the party, which was billed as a party to celebrate the service "of Canadian youth towards a smart and caring nation."

Kate, 29, had changed into a third dress for the day, a more casual dress by Issa, one of her favorite designers. The black and white wrap dress decorated with birds. She paired it with wedge-style sandals.

William was also dressed down in open-necked blue shirt and khaki pants.

After the initial receiving line, they split up and moved around the room. The duchess spoke to a table asking if they all worked together or at different places. One of them asked if they were suffering from the day of traveling. "We are fine, not too bad," she replied.

Before they met the couple, a group of young women were anxiously waiting and one told PEOPLE, "It's certainly a once in a lifetime experience to be here and meet them.". Jessica Bolduc, 25, a volunteer and board member with the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples also said, "the work that they do with youth and charities is really close to what everybody here is doing. It's really nice to share experiences."

Natalie Lacroix, 20, from the Canadian Cancer Society, said, "Everyone loves them. They are the peoples' royalty and people want to see them here."

On the evening's menu was a selection of dishes showcasing food from all corners of Canada: Yukon Arctic Char Caviar, Winnipeg smoked Goldeye and Prince Edward Island cheddar parfait, and Banks Island Muskox Prosciutto with Alberta cheese crackling. Niagara Peninsula sun-dried sour cherry and white chocolate cheesecake lollipops and fresh Quebec strawberries finished it off.
