Duhamel puts Fergie's 'new look' down to lipstick

The Black Eyed Peas star and her bandmates performed on U.S. TV show American Idol last week (ends20Mar11), and Fergie's fresh-faced appearance sparked rumours she has gone under the knife.

But Duhamel is adamant his wife's glow is all natural and he credits a new pink lip colour with transforming her look.

He tells Ryan Seacrest, "I thought she looked amazing (on American Idol). It's amazing. You put a different colour on your lips and, uh, rumours fly. But she's the same, she's the same Fergie... I sleep right next to her every night. I like it."

Britney Spears' MTV Special Is 'For The Fans,' Manager Says

Britney Spears gives fans an inside look at her life and the making of her latest album in the MTV special "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale."

MTV News has of course been tracking the release of her record, which finally dropped on Tuesday, but we were also on hand as she performed in Las Vegas at the Palms' Rain nightclub. Fans will get to see the show ? and much more ? for themselves when the special airs on Sunday, April 3, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.

When we spoke to Spears' longtime manager, Larry Rudolph, in Vegas, he told us Brit wanted to put on a spectacle for her fans. She wanted to take her first Femme Fatale live performance to Vegas because much like the city, Spears' concerts have lots of sparkle, pyro and razzmatazz, he explained.

"We chose this place; we chose the Palms because the Palms is where Britney has so much history," he said. "We performed here with the Britney album, we did a similar thing. We're doing this eight years later now and we're doing it for the fans."

Rudolph stressed that Spears has one main goal: to entertain her fans in the Femme Fatale era. "For her, it was really important to do it for the fans the first time she was out there," he explained. "To do it here in Las Vegas, where everything is bigger and everything is more exciting and the fans are here for her, this was the place to do it.

"I want them to know ? when the fans watch this ? I want them to know that Britney is back and better than ever, not that she's ever gone anywhere," he continued. "But she's back and she's better than ever."

Don't miss "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale" on Sunday, April 3, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.

Crowe backs earthquake aid appeal

The Hollywood actor has filmed a video message for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal asking for donations to help aid efforts in the stricken city.

In the clip, posted on YouTube.com, he says, "Christchurch needs its mates, whether they happen to be here in New Zealand, or across the ditch, or on the other side of the world. Your donation to the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal, no matter how big or small, will help the city as it faces the challenges ahead."

And the Gladiator star's benevolence has impressed politicians in the country - a representative for Prime Minister John Key says, "We're grateful to Mr Crowe for raising awareness in this way. All who have visited Christchurch will tell you the same thing - while there is incredible resilience and positivity everywhere, the task ahead of us to rebuild the city, and community, is huge. The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal is a way people can make a real difference to people's lives there."

More than 160 people died in the 6.3-magnitude tremor, which hit the city on 22 February (11).

Celebrity CEO kicks off production of final Solstice-class ship - USA Today

By Gene Sloan, USA TODAY

This item was written by Johanna Jainchill, who covers cruising for Travel Weekly. Jainchill is serving as Guest Editor of The Cruise Log while USA TODAY Cruise Editor Gene Sloan is away.

Celebrity Cruises executives were in Germany today for a ceremony marking the first steel cutting for the fifth and last of the line's Solstice-class ships.

Dan Hanrahan, Celebrity president and CEO, activated the machinery that cut the first piece of what will become the 3,030-passenger Celebrity Reflection at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

The delivery of the Reflection will mark the last of the $3.7 billion ship order that began with the delivery of the Celebrity Solstice in 2008, and has since added one ship per year to Celebrity's fleet.

The Reflection, scheduled to debut in the fall of 2012, will be made larger than its four, 2,850-passenger sister ships by both widening the vessel and adding another deck to it.

The additional room will allow Celebrity to add 72 cabins to the Reflection, including 34 AquaClass suites, which offer passengers special access to the spa and Blu, the "healthy, clean cuisine" restaurant. The 126,000-ton ship (4,000 tons more than the other Solstice-class ships) will also have extra seats in its theater and restaurants, and hundreds more lounge chairs on an expanded pool deck.

Also in the shipyard and under construction is the fourth of the Solstice-class ships, the Celebrity Silhouette, which is scheduled to enter service in July of this year.

Two Contestants Booted from American Idol

There are no more second chances.

With the judges' one save used on Casey Abrams last week on American Idol, "no one can escape the outcome" of the public's 55 million votes, announced Ryan Seacrest at the start of Thursday's results show. And it was two singers destined to go, not just one. Even so, the show was something of a relief after the topsy-turvy Casey incident.

Spoiler Alert! Keep reading if you want to find out who got booted.

Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo were sent home.

This should have surprised no one ? least of all Naima and Thia, who've had their share of ups and downs. They've never seemed secure in the competition.

Naima never quite settled on how to fuse the different notes in her voice ? blues, jazz, soul, pop. Not to mention dance moves. She fumbled badly Wednesday with her reggae version of "I'm Still Standing." She didn't find a comfortable groove with it, and she didn't help matters by starting with a spoken introduction that tried to elevate the song into some sort of all-purpose anthem of triumph for difficult times.

And Thia? Ah, Thia! She has a lovely voice ? one of the season's best ? but her consistency was her downfall. She tended to sing at the same emotional temperature from week to week. Even "Heat Wave" couldn't move the thermometer. She was most comfortable with melancholy pop: You always felt umbrellas should be distributed to the judges and studio audience in case tears started raining. She just wasn't the sort to seize the moment onstage.

Thia and Naima were joined in the bottom three by Paul McDonald.

There has always been the issue of whether viewers really "get" such an unusual voice on the Idol stage, where ballad queens like Pia Toscano dominate so easily. Well, this indicates that Paul's whispery pop-folkiness may be wearing out its welcome. "Rocket Man" was in fact one of his better performances, but Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez were somewhat reserved.

Casey avoided the bottom three altogether this time, either because viewers liked his toned-down delivery on "Your Song" or they were still shaken up/moved by his dramatic turnaround at the end of last week's results show.

Stefano Langone, who'd joined Casey in the bottom two on that same show, also stayed safe this time. And will probably stay so for a while.

The show, thank goodness, bagged the cheesy group medley that usually opens the results hour. Instead we got Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery singing a duet of a very relaxed "I Told You So" that earned an ovation from the judges ?. Naima and Jacob Lusk singing a less relaxed cover of Asford & Simpson's "Solid" (at the end of which Naima was informed she was in the bottom three) ? Haley Reinhart, Pia and Thia harmonizing smoothly, if blandly, on Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" (at the end of which Thia was dispatched to join Naima) ? And Paul, Casey, Stefano and James Durbin forming a chipper but uneven quartet for "Band on the Run" (at the end of which Paul became the last of the Unhappy Three).

It was an effective way of giving all the performers another opportunity to shine while bundling the doomed ones off to the guillotine.
