Celebrity chef wants to dish up Sobhraj film - Zee News

Celebrity chef wants to dish up Sobhraj film Kathmandu: He once wowed India with a TV show where he rolled out French cuisine with a flourish. Now celebrity chef Alain Andre is seeking to make a more piquant dish: a film on his fellow Frenchman Charles Sobhraj, who is currently serving life for murder in the dank and dismal Central Jail of Kathmandu.

Andre, who spends half the year in India and half in Europe, mostly Paris, has a production company in New Delhi -- Pash Production.

The sexagenarian`s USP is that along with his film partner in Paris, Franois Enginger, he is the only one to hold a contract to make a film on Sobhraj, a right that Sobhraj has been fiercely protecting from Bollywood film makers who have also showed interest in his life and crimes.

Andre, who has never met Sobhraj, says he came to know about him though Enginger while they were shooting a film in Thailand. Franois asked a travel agency in Paris to get his visa and the woman who was assisting him turned out to be Sobhraj`s ex-wife Chantal.

"I have all the rights for a movie on his life story," she told Enginger. "Could you help us?"

At that time, Sobhraj was finishing his stint in New Delhi`s Tihar Jail. When he was released and deported to France in 1997, Andre says Sobhraj and Enginger became friends with the latter helping him obtain an apartment and giving him money.

During that time, Sobhraj, depicted as a serial killer by the media, showed a different side to him.

"Charles met a Chinese woman and had a baby with her," says Andre. "The baby was sick and Charles, with Franois, were at the doctors` every day. They became good friends and Franois said to me: `This man cannot be a killer, he is so gentle`."

Then Sobhraj disappeared from Paris in 2003 only to surface in Kathmandu in a blaze of media glare with Nepal police arresting him and then slapping him with the murder of an American tourist in 1975.

Despite a long battle in three courts, Nepal`s Supreme Court finally judged him guilty last year and upheld the 20-year prison sentence awarded by the lower courts.

"We think he has fallen into a trap," Andre says.

With Enginger currently in Morocco, Andre is now scouting for a "serious" Indian co-producer who will be willing to put down 50 percent of the budget needed for shooting the film. Andre has planned the feature film, to be made in Hindi and English, to be shot in France, Greece and India.

With Sobhraj`s obsession with controlling the script, how did Andre persuade him to make the film?
|
"Charles knows that Isabelle Coutant Peyre (his lawyer in Paris) will protect his rights and make sure that the movie respects his point of view," Andre says. "And I personally would not want to make any movie without respecting Charles` life and honour.

"Nobody can say Charles is a killer; there is no proof. Only Nepal has sentenced him as a killer, but the so-called proofs are fake and the United Nations International Committee for Human Rights in Geneva itself has condemned Nepal in 2010."

What about the rumours that Shah Rukh Khan was ready to play Sobhraj in the film?

Andre nixes that.

"I met an Indian producer who told me he was a partner of SRK and so the rumour went around that way," he says. "But the discussions with that Indian producer are over."

World Leaders Battle To Calm Money Market Fears

World leaders are battling to calm panic in the global money markets ahead of Monday morning's opening.

Prime Minister David Cameron broke into his holiday to discuss the crisis in the financial markets with French president Nicolas Sarkozy.

Unconfirmed reports also suggested that finance ministers or senior officials of the G7 group of industrialised nations may hold a conference call today to discuss the turmoil in the eurozone and the downgrading of the US's AAA credit rating.

Speculation has been rife that Italy will be the next eurozone country in line for a bailout, but Italy's financial woes differ from other countries in the euro.

A housing bubble brought Spain and Ireland to the brink, while low interest rates fueled out of control spending in Greece.

But in Italy, there's an enormous debt mountain, equivalent to 124% of the country's annual gross domestic product.

The overdraft started to grow in the 1970's, and ballooned in the 1990s after the lira was targeted by speculators.

Italy managed to rollover that debt by issuing government bonds to raise more cash, but that conveyor belt is slowing down.

Jitters in the financial markets means potential purchasers of those bonds are demanding a higher level of interest.

That cost of borrowing will trickle down to all consumers who will find loans, like mortgages, more expensive.

Italy's already tepid rate of growth could suffer which worries Sandra Bottoni, a fruit seller in Campo de' Fiori.

"People my age are more or less able to cope, but what about young people? I have kids aged 18 and 23.

"What kind of future are we giving them?" she told Sky News.

Some blame a lack of market reform and political inaction for Italy's inability to reduce the debt and generate economic growth.

Federigo Argentieri, adjunct associate professor of political science at John Cabot University, says the country is out of step with the global economy.

"Italy is the country which invented capitalism, but it seems to have been unable to implement it," he said.

"It has not gone through the bourgeoise revolution, in many respects, it is still medieval."

Business people say successive Italian governments may have cut spending and the tax burden, but they have failed to stimulate the sluggish economy.

We found little love for politicians of any hue, especially from restauranteur Pierluigi Roscioli.

"Italian politicians are basically aloof. They float over the sea of Italian problems, but they never dip into it.

"They only have a superficial idea of the country's issues."

There is still plenty of conspicuous spending in the land of luxury goods. Unemployment is relatively low, as is the annual budget deficit of 4%.

But if Italy can't afford to raise enough cash to rollover its debts, the Eurozone would struggle to finance a bailout.

That could leave the currency in crisis and the home of a once triumphant empire in need of a helping hand.

Anne Hathaway's Catwoman: Less rubber, more robber

ANNE Hathaway's new Catwoman costume appears to be a bit of a departure from the character's outfits of old.

Gone (pretty much) is the dominatrix-y gloss of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry's get-ups.

Anne Hathaway's Catwoman looks more into whizz-bang gadgetry and geeky goggles than saucy whip-cracking antics.

The picture, taken from The Dark Knight and shown on the film's website, shows Anne's character, Selina Kyle, hopping aboard the Batpod.

We think Anne looks great, although we wonder if the Catwoman Mk III costume will have quite the same effect on boys as the last two.

Coldplay Perform New Songs, Thrill Crowd At Lollapalooza

CHICAGO ? Playing the first big show in support of his band's upcoming fifth album, Coldplay singer Chris Martin promised a proper rocking time to the massive crowd that gathered to see the group at its first-ever Lollapalooza appearance on Friday night. They needed to bring it too, since they were up against fellow big-show spectacle veterans Muse at the other end of steamy Grant Park and #1 party DJ Girl Talk just around the way in the steamy, nonstop disco party that is Perry's Tent.

And after hyping the crowd with pal Jay-Z's "99 Problems" and the fanfare of "Back to the Future," Martin and company did their best over a 90-minute set packed with shout-along hits and several intriguing peeks at their latest anthemic tunes.

Check out all the photos from Lollapalooza as the weekend ramps up in Chicago!

The show opened with a combo of new tunes: the crystalline "MX," which segued into "Hurts Like Heaven," a double-time shuffle that fits right into the band's playbook of revved-up emotional anthems. Reeling the audience right in, they followed with a quick jab, their breakout hit "Yellow," which sounded every bit as uplifting as it did when it first made them stars more than a decade ago.

After furiously strumming a beat-up acoustic guitar for the first two tunes, a beaming Martin bounded across the stage in his rag-doll dance and encouraged unassuming guitarist and old-school pal Jonny Buckland to step into the spotlight for some spiraling solos during "In My Place." They slipped another new one into the mix, the strummy, U2-like push-pull rocker "Major Minus," then countered with more crowd pleasers with the chugging, percussive "Lost!" and a spare arrangement of "The Scientist."

Martin asked the audience to help bring it home and, of course, they obliged, taking it in for a feather-soft landing right out of the band's playbook.

Tweet your pics from Lollapalooza to @mtvnews and they could be featured on MTV.com!

With many of the bells and whistles of their previous tour on the shelf ? except for some giant balloons and a somewhat modest, for them, multicolored video wall ? the band leaned on the yearning majesty of songs like "Shiver," which lived and died by Buckland's Edge-like soloing, Martin's keening falsetto and drummer Will Champion's whip-crack beats.

"God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" built from a hushed ballad to a chaotic, strobe-lit rocker, with Champion playing a relentless martial beat as Martin literally tossed his acoustic guitar aside in favor of electric to add to the squall of reverb from Buckland.

Martin played the part of saloon crooner during "Everything's Not Lost," tickling the ivories as the band built to a slow, powerful crescendo around him, with Champion taking over in his rough tenor while Buckland and Martin engaged in a slow-burn musical guitar face-off.

Martin jokingly introduced another new tune, "Us Against the World," as a love song about an affair between right-wing TV talking head Bill O'Reilly and Fox News contributor Sarah Palin and his hope that through their love, they might see the world in a different way. He was, of course, kidding and proceeded to play the gentle acoustic ballad about taking on all comers by himself, with Champion joining in on backing vocals and piano, as the song built into a kind of Irish bar ballad.

"Politik" pulsed like a fever, swinging from a constrained rumble to a frenzied, full band strobe-lit thunder, before segueing into the crowd-hyping "Viva la Vida." With Champion pounding kettle drums and a (Jerusalem) bell on cue, the power of the song to rouse an exhausted flock into shouting and dancing the "whoa oh oh oh oh oh" on cue with no prompting was further proof of Coldplay's permanent place in the rock stratosphere.

The set ended with another new song, the pompy pop tune "Charlie Brown," which, again, fans seemed happy to hear in preview form.

With green searchlight lasers scanning the crowd and the indelible opening fanfare of "Clocks" ringing out, the wilting field sprang to life again as tens of thousands swayed, shook their legs and yelled, "Nothing else compares!" The band executed the song with Swiss precision, Martin pounding the keys, bassist Guy Berryman keeping a metronome thrum and Champion rolling out the marching rhythm.

As he's done several times lately, Martin quietly sang a tribute to Amy Winehouse with a solo piano chorus of the late British singer's hit "Rehab" that slid into the swooning sing-along "Fix You." As the song swelled, Martin threw his hands up and jumped, a move timed perfectly with a burst of silvery fireworks that erupted from the roof of the stage.

Their faithful firmly in hand, the show ended with the band's new single, the excitable "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall," which the crowd greeted with nearly the same enthusiasm as one of the classics they had chanted along to all night. The colorful fireworks display set off against the city's iconic skyline didn't hurt either. That reaction was just about the perfect definition of rock stardom.

There was plenty on display across the way as well, where Muse opened with the bombastic hit "Uprising" as the stage lit up with the band's signature "Tron"-like light-stravaganza. While tossing in bits of covers such as "House of the Rising Sun" and Nirvana's "Negative Creep," frontman Matthew Bellamy kept things gothic and theatrical, hitting up such catalog highlights as "United States of Eurasia," "Supermassive Black Hole," "Resistance" and the set-closing "Knights of Cydonia."

But unlike his eternally genial and self-deprecating countryman Martin, Bellamy couldn't resist a slight dig, telling the crowd, "We know you had options [tonight] ... and you picked the right one."

Goodbye, Charlie. Hello, Ashton.

In a last goodbye, Friday night brought the taping of the funeral of Charlie Sheen's character Charlie Harper on the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men, according to reports from the closed set.

Also there to appear in the season premiere: Ashton Kutcher, who is joining the cast. In the show's readjusted storyline, Charlie's Malibu bachelor pad is being bought by broken-hearted Internet mogul Walter Schmidt, played by Kutcher.

No word yet on the cause of Harper's death, which reportedly is being kept secret by the series' creator and executive producer, Chuck Lorre.

Charlie Harper's funeral, as seen in a photo circulating the Internet, features a casket draped with the colors of the character's favorite bowling shirt.

According to TMZ.com, the staged funeral was also packed with all of Charlie's former girlfriends, as well as guest stars John Stamos ? who, among others, was once rumored to be assuming Sheen's role ? and Jenny McCarthy.

Sheen and the program bitterly parted ways in March of this year, amid outbursts by the star, both in radio and TV interviews and in live stage presentations.

Now entering its ninth season on CBS, Two and a Half Men also stars Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones. Sheen, meanwhile, has been announced to star in a new show, Anger Management.

More fan photos from the set of 'J. Edgar' in DC last spring

One of our readers, Jenn C., checked out the Washington D.C. set of J.Edgar back in March in hopes of seeing the film?s star, Leonardo DiCaprio.

Though she wasn?t lucky enough to meet Leo, she did get a glimpse of him, writer Dustin Lance Black, and met the film?s director, Clint Eastwood, along with Leo?s co-stars Armie Hammer and Naomi Watts.

Here?s what she had to say about the shoot:

I heard about Leonardo DiCaprio filming ?J. Edgar? in Washington D.C. in late March and went from Maryland to D.C. to see what I could find as he is my favorite actor. I arrived around 9 A.M., apparently Leo was already on set in hair and makeup but Armie Hammer and Naomi Watts later arrived.

We waited for about 3 hours until moving to the other location we heard production talking about. We saw Leo through the car window and got to talk to Armie. Security was extremely tight as it was in D.C. After about two hours there, we returned to the base camp. Later, Armie and Naomi arrived back on set, so did Leo. We got to meet Clint Eastwood, who was incredibly humble and nice, Armie Hammer, who was so sweet and nice and so was his wife, and Naomi Watts. They were all so professional and down to earth. We got to see Leo from a distance but he spent hours in his trailer and seemed extremely focused on his role. Dustin Lance Black, the screenwriter, was also on set.

The 11 hours in the freezing cold were worth it- as the cast and crew were professional and very nice. Can?t wait to see the movie!

J. Edgar was primarily shot in Los Angeles last winter, but they spends few weeks shooting exteriors in the Virginia/Washington D.C. area.

It looks like Steven Spielberg will be following in his colleague Clint Eastwood?s steps as we?ve heard his next film, Lincoln, has already set up shop at the same Virginia studio where John Adams was filmed in 2008. They have also set up a production office in Mechanicsville, VA. Lincoln, which stars Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln, will begin filming this fall.

Anyone else sensing a trend? As long as they keep making movies about historical figures, the film industry in Virginia should be booming!

Celebrity Diets: Gerard Butler weight loss shocker explained? - Gather Celebs News Channel

Hollywood actor Gerard Butler has lost a ton of weight. The trouble is, dressed in a suit and compared to other star celebs his height, having lost so much weight, he does look a bit waifish. What happened? The answer to that mysterious question is easy.

Butler is not competing with other star celebs to beat the battle of the bulge. He's not sick and he does not have an eating disorder. He is about to begin filming a surfing movie, and he needed to cull himself down from his 300 heavyweight fighting size to a new look to play the role of a man in a life story about a real character.

Gerard Butler, as a manly icon, is a Hollywood heart-throb. He's dated beautiful women like actress Jennifer Aniston and is pals around with guys like late night talk show host Craig Ferguson.

Showing up on the red carpet looking half his weight with tousled long hair that was heavily frosted and highlighted blonde, everyone from gay men to adoring female fans wondered what the heck happened. How could such a manly guy look (quite frankly) so... feminine?

You can click here to see the latest picture of Gerard Butler with blonde hair. But be warned?his new look was so strange at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association luncheon this week that many entertainment news journalists had a hard time recognizing him.

Butler (who was born November 13th, 1969) is a sexy Scorpio. Tall, formerly dark, and ruggedly handsome described his appealing look in the past. His big blue eyes catch nearly everyone he meets off guard, but were piercing rather than disarming.

The 6-foot 2-inch tall star has played in films like the recently completed Machine Gun Preacher (2011), as a voice in the animated family movie How To Train Your Dragon, and the romantic comedy even guys were willing to watch?a chick flick called The Bounty Hunter.

In 300, he played King Leonidas. In the new surfing movie called Mavericks, he will play Ricky Heston (a.k.a. Frosty), a mentor who helps encourage the wave-riding main character, Jay Moriarity.

While learning to surf may have helped Gerard Butler lose weight (thanks to surfing being a fantastic whole body toning aerobic exercise), the celebrity hairstyle with the frosted blonde look really makes him look like less of an athlete and more of an art-ISTE.

Will he stay so painfully thin and dolled up in the future? Let's hope not.

Why?

Because men like Brad Pitt bring enough pretty boy vibes to the big screen in major motion pictures already, and quite frankly, it was nice to see a man's man who could play a role the way actor Russell Crowe can?but with an even better sense of humor.

Dr. Drew: Amy Winehouse Tried To Contact Me Before She Died

FIRST PUBLISHED: July 29, 2011 6:15 PM EDT

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Dr. Drew Pinsky has a reputation for helping celebrities with drug and alcohol issues and he revealed Amy Winehouse attempted to get a hold of him not long before she died.

?I found out also yesterday that, believe it or not, she was trying to contact me which was weird. Janice Dickenson told me that,? Dr. Drew told KROQ morning DJs Kevin & Bean on Thursday. ?I remember getting calls from Europe and thinking, ?What the hell is this???

While the two never connected, Dr. Drew does not believe that the Winehouse family is correct in their belief that Amy died of alcohol withdrawal.

?Just this morning, her parents put out some type or news release that suggests that they believe she died of was alcohol withdrawal, which is a very interesting little theory. It?s wrong,? Dr. Drew said. ?It?s not what she died of, I can virtually guarantee you but it?s an interesting reminder to all of us that alcohol is the only drug from which the withdrawal is commonly fatal.

?It can kill you? but it kills you, it sort of? you go down in a ball of fire,? Dr. Drew explained. ?You get really, really sick and you cease and you become encephalopathic and confused and your heart becomes erratic and it?s not like you just drop dead like her parents are suggesting.?

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com Amy died last Saturday at the age of 27. Her cause of death is not expected for several weeks.

Since splitting last year from his ex-wife and Dexter costar Jennifer Carpenter, Michael C. Hall has been able to make time for a few other loved ones.

"I spend a lot of time with my cats," the actor, 40, tells PEOPLE of the pets he adopted with Carpenter in 2009. "They're both boys, they're both very affectionate. Their names are Preacher and Ford. They're my four-legged friends."

Typically opting for evenings at home with his cats over nights out on the town, Hall, who successfully beat cancer in 2010, says that overall, "Things are great. I'm loving life."

When he's not spending time at home with his two "very good friends," Hall stays busy with work.

"Summer is a lot of early-morning and late-night freeway rides to and from Long Beach [Calif.]," he says. "We shoot down there a lot. Right now I'm in a Dexter well."

'Change-Up' Blurs Line Between Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman

In order to properly fulfill their duties as characters who swap bodies in raunchy comedy "The Change-Up," stars Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman spent some quality time learning each other's respective personality traits and mannerisms. Unsurprisingly, when the film wrapped, the real-life friends found that letting go of their newly acquired traits wasn't easy.

"Some of them stuck with me," Reynolds told MTV News, recalling a phrase he had used earlier. "Like when I said 'real long,' that's you," he said, turning to Bateman. "I'm doing you right there."

"This guy will motivate you to work a little bit harder," Bateman said, shifting the discussion toward flat-out praise for Reynolds' acting abilities, including his impression of Bateman himself. "[What] some actors will do when you're doing comedies is that, during the time it takes between when you rehearse a scene and when you shoot it, they light the scene," he explained. "You go in your dressing room, and if you have a good work ethic, you'll write down some extra jokes to say when they shoot the scene. This guy, they just fall right out of his head, quickly and as high-quality as Mr. Vince Vaughn. I don't have those skills," Bateman admitted. "I have to write stuff down. He forces my game up quite a bit, so I did a lot of studying in my trailer."

"What a nice thing to say," Reynolds said to Bateman.
